Spring Tulips!

April 27th, 2009 by Allan · 5 Comments · Seattle, family

One of the rites of spring here in the Seattle area is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  We first went two years ago (some of you may remember a tulip-rich Christmas card– that was from our visit back then.  Well, the tulips are finally out– it had been too cold for them to really bloom before now — and we took the girls for the 1 hour drive to see them.

The tulip festival is spread out over a large area– the two main tulip fields being “Tuliptown” and the “Roozengarde.”  We went to Tuliptown last time, so gave the Roozengarde a shot this time.  Just inside the gate there is a replica of a windmill from the low country.  Another visitor was nice enough to take a photo of all four of us.

Our carrying method for the girls got quite a reaction (as it often does).  We overheard one group walking by with one guy saying “look– that’s how real northwesterners carry babies– in a backpack– Let’s go hike!”  Pretty funny.

The tulip fields were pretty impressive this year– miles of tuplis with the foothills of the Northern Cascades as a backdrop:

Of course, you can’t just stand there– you have to get down among them for shots with the girls…

And yet again we were able to find someone to help us get a shot of all four of us.  Hadley was more interested in getting her hands on a tulip than looking at the camera though.

well done! we were up there Saturday. It was a zoo, but impressive. Kathleen and the girls have been just about every year, but this was my first time. They are beautiful.

Those pictures are fantastic! The girls obviously take after their mother in their fondness for tulips!!

I always forget about our backpack, though we used it a lot in CA. Maybe it’s because it’s so damn hot here I can’t fathom having to wear my child! Or because Kira clambers to be carried in it once she sees Leslie in there. No Way am I carrying 35lbs plus on my back for a walk around the block!

[...] made our annual pilgrammage to the Tulip Festival last weekend.  Here’s a link to last year’s post (check out how little the girls were!). Fun fact, the Skagit Valley (60 miles north of Seattle) is [...]
